Founded in 1912, this river fish shop is famous for its eels. Although the store has a small frontage, its reputation resonates far and wide. They insist on domestic eels from Aichi Prefecture and natural eels from the Seto Inland Sea caught in Kojima Bay, Okayama Prefecture. They are carefully grilled over charcoal with a secret sauce. The store’s fourth-generation owner follows the cooking method handed down for generations.

“Ayu (sweetfish), moroko fish, eels, and other fish are kept alive swimming in a tank in the back of the store. They are taken out from the tank and grilled, boiled, or used for tsukudani (simmered in soy sauce and mirin) while they are still fresh,” the owner says. “The rare natural blue eel is available in season.”

For gifts and souvenirs, they are proud to offer "bubu unagi," which is grilled eel cooked with sansho (Japanese pepper) and sauce.
Eels grilled over charcoal are tender and have a distinctive umami flavor. Eel Yawata-maki (vegetables rolled in eel meat) and tsukudani of river fish are also available.
